Travel the Three Worlds! A Read Along of Martha Wells’s Raksura Books

Fly through skies filled with floating islands and winged ships! Marvel at forests filled with towering trees and cities carved out of mountains. Journey among land, sea and sky and meet all the strange creatures who dwell therein.

Join me for a read along of Martha Wells’s The Cloud Roads.

Martha Wells’s Raksura series is one of the most imaginative fantasy series I’ve ever encountered. The world is completely original, without even humans, and gloriously vivid.

In The Cloud Roads, Moon has spent his entire life hiding the fact that he’s a shapeshifter who can transform into a winged, scaled form. He has only vague memories of where he came from and doesn’t even know his own species. He tries to fit in among the villages he travels through, but he’s always forced to move on.  Until one day, just as he’s being kicked out of the latest village, he finds another shapeshifter like him, Stone, who wants to take him to a shapeshifter (Raksura) community. Moon is wary of the offer, but he goes along and finds out that Stone wasn’t telling him everything….

The schedule is still open to shifting, but here’s the current outline. (Edit – changed to a Wednesday)

Week 1 – Wednesday September 7th: Chapters 1-5
Week 2 – Wednesday September 14th: Chapters 6-10
Week 3 – Wednesday September 21st: Chapters 11-15 – hosted by Anya.
Week 4 – Wednesday September 28th: Chapters 16-20

This read along is being organized through the Goodreads SF/F Read Along group. How this normally works is that people volunteer to come up with questions for each week, and participants post answers on their own blogs, linking to them in the thread. If you don’t have a blog, you’re welcome to post on the thread itself or to comment here.

If you’re interested in joining and/or hosting a week, please comment here or on the Goodreads thread.

Oh exciting! I love these books. I have no time to join in, but I’m looking forward to seeing everyone’s thoughts!

  2. Ooh, I’ve had the first book on my TBR forever, and after reading Edge of Worlds and Tales of the Raksura vol 1, I should really make good on my promise to start from the beginning. September, you say? I’m going to see if I can fit this in!
